Assassin Gnome

What happens when you are plagued by pixies? Frustrated by fairies? Spited by sprites? Take care of it, of course. For the right amount of cash and the right contacts, you, too, can call in your very own Assassin Gnome. Quick, professional, and clean, they'll get the job done and disappear.

This is actually an idea that has been rattling around in my head for awhile and a long story to boot. It may also lead to an expanded concept I'm currently working out, involving gnomes and fighting. Stay tuned.

Here's a close up, which is special, because trust me, you'd never see them this close in real life:

Mr. Miracle, Super Escape Artist

Continuing with some more DC Comics characters this month, I give you Jack Kirby's Mr. Miracle trying to free himself from a diabolical trap. And lots of cosmic Kirby dots, too.

[Update 5/3- This piece is featured on Jason Garrettley's Kirby-Vision today! Check out the great works on this site and support both Jason's efforts and the parent site, Jack Kirby Museum & Research Center, as well.]

The Dark Knight Repaneled

I submitted this piece to Repaneled, a blog that invites artists to take an existing comic book panel and redo it in a different style. I chose a splash page from book one of Batman: The Dark Knight, by Frank Miller and reinterpreted it in a campy Dick Sprang way. It was a fun concept to try, the blog has some really cool work on it, and I'm happy to be included.

Birthday Wishes From Cakeulon Pi Of Cybertron

My friend Matt had a birthday yesterday and is a big Transformers fan, so I arranged for Cakeulon Pi, the robot that is also is a tasty chocolate frosted cake, to make it all the way from Cybertron to wish Mr. Mr. a happy birthday in his own transformery way. It's a long way from Cybertron to Earth, especially when your space bridge is on the fritz, so this comes a day late. You might be asking, why does a birthday cake have red, car doors? Good question.

I Cornered THE BLACK PANTHER (And I Got Scratched!)

This little beauty I drew up and submitted to the blog Cornered, a blog dedicated to the spot illustrations located in the top left corner of comic book covers, typically found on the covers of Marvel Comics over the years. Calamity Jon Morris runs the site and invites artists out in the blogosphere to submit their rendition of their favorite "corners". I chose the Black Panther from Jungle Action #9, published in 1974. The Panther had an amazing run on that title for a good three years, and I highly suggest picking it up. You should all check out the other amazing works at this fantastic blog.

Lego Star Wars For Christopher

Will the combined might of Jedi Master Brendan (yes, I drew it. I get to be a Jedi Master), his apprentice, Jedi Knight Christopher, and bounty hunter Amy Fett be enough to thwart the plans of the dark lord Darth Vader? This piece goes out to my new buddy, Christopher, in Palm Beach, Florida. Call it a thank you for giving me a similar drawing he had drawn for my ride home last month.

Jonah Hex, Ah Reckon

He was a hero to some, a villain to others...and wherever he rode people spoke his name in whispers. He had no friends, this Jonah Hex, but he did have two companions. One was death itself…the other, the acrid smell of gunsmoke.

My absolute favorite Western comic character published by the people at DC, the gruff, misshapen bounty hunter known as Jonah Hex.

Happy Birthday, Meghan!

Today is my friend, Meghan's, birthday and she wanted me to draw her as a superhero. I obliged. She said nothing about a decapitated, zombie, horse's head in a rocket powered jar, however. That's pure Tobin. Sometimes you get a little extra.

Carrot Boy And Ninja Rabbit

I was going through some old posts at BGR and an old MSN Messenger drawing Matt did inspired me.

(4/11- Ooooo, this piece got me a guest spot on BGR.)

Unicorn Dolphin Rainbow Fight In Space On A Sweet Trapper Keeper

You know you want this sweet looking Trapper Keeper and to take it to school and pray you don't get beat up for carrying said Trapper Keeper. I guarantee it will make Social Studies more fun and girls will talk to you finally. It has a unicorn and a dolphin puking rainbows at each other in a titanic struggle in space. That's epic. And chicks dig epic, sport.

Slow Day In Space Sector 2814...

Hal Jordan, Earth's Green Lantern, takes a load off while patrolling Space Sector 2814 on a slow day.

By the way, the second trailer for the GL movie came out last weekend at the Wondercon in San Francisco. After viewing the first trailer, I was still on the fence about whether or not this movie would be good or not. After seeing the second sneak, I feel like it might just be super awesome.

Superheroes For Jack

Here's a picture for Jack Barry, who I was told has been visiting my blog regularly with his dad, Ben. It was brought to my attention that Jack was a big fan of both Ironman and Wolverine, so I thought I'd arrange an introduction. Here you go, buddy, I hope you like it!

Baby Jesus Drinking A Cup Of Coffee Fighting A Giant Spider

Suggested piece that made its way to me via IM:
absolutanger: (2:12:38 PM) Hey. I have a drawing you could do.
Brendan Tobin: (2:12:56 PM) Yeah?
absolutanger: (2:13:08 PM) Draw Baby Jesus drinking a cup of coffee fighting a giant spider. Its a gag for Mike, Dagan and I.
absolutanger: (2:13:14 PM) :)
Brendan Tobin: (2:13:18 PM) ok

I don't question, I just draw.
